Taking care of animals is just as tough as taking care of a child full of high and low moments. For example, you try your best to keep your kids out of trouble, but somehow they just cant seem to stay out of it, the same way dogs cant stay out of fight or even worse, attacking people even after youve taken him to obedience school to mix with other canines and taught him how to behave, plus a trick or two. As the owner you will always think that the other dog started it and yours just went along at the heat of the moment, but soon enough it turns out to be a full of aggression situation, causing you to wonder what is the right thing that you should do.

In order to bring to a halt a fight or to prevent an attack, you must remember never to yell at them to stop, as they might think of the yelling as an encouragement to start fighting even harder. How to stop a dog fight? Look around you, and if there is a water hose nearby, try to spray them down, dont panic and aim the water jet at their legs and feet as they are more responsive to stimuli on their extremities rather than other places. If all these still couldnt bring to a close the fight or attack, try to pull them apart, but there is a high chance of getting bitten. Do not grab them by the collars or the scruffs of their necks in the middle of a fight or they might whip back and snap at you. It is best to have the other dogs owner to be present at times like these, so that each owner can grab their pets tail and lift up their hind legs off the ground as this act will surprise them by throwing them off their balance, making it easier to pull them apart. However, if you are at the scene by yourself, then try to take charge of the aggressor by grabbing his tail and lifting his hind legs and then pulling him away from the other pet.

Another option that you can go for is to get a TASER gun and use it when you need to on dogs. A bit extreme, and even a little sadistic, but this is definitely a method worth trying as the TASER blast causes very little pain to them, compared to the pain from injuries due to the vicious fights. It is also worth noting that the use of a TASER gun has no permanent damage to the attacking pet.

A TASER gun can be used to bring to a halt fights as well as stop dog attack pretty fast and efficiently. An estimated number of 368,245 persons were treated for injuries relating to bites in North America for the year 2001, and these victims were mostly children between the ages of 5 to 9, based on the statistics from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (CDC). The blast from a TASER gun can send an attacker to the ground with its electrical jolt, and there should be plenty of time to subdue them when he is in the state of shock.

The US based Insurance Information Institute had reported that for the year 2003 dog bites accounted for $321.6 million in claims, while the number of dog deaths for 2005 was 13,498,254, taken from a report by the American Pet Association. In 2002, the average cost of medical treatment for dogs that were involved in fights was $137.56 for each incident as reported by The North American Vet Society. TASER guns will definitely help to lower down these alarming numbers of facts, keeping both the people and pets safe, besides helping to lower down the cost of pet medical bills. The use of a TASER gun for dog control and to discontinue an attack had been reported before, in The Times Herald-Record where a Monroe police officer, Greg Witten had use a TASER gun to subdue two attacking pit bulls on a golf course, on April 13th 2006. The pets, which ran away from their Still Road home, had been harassing golfers at the Monroe Country Club, resulting in the golfers having to defend themselves using golf clubs, before Witten finally zapping them twice, forcing them to return home.

Although no pet owner would want to have to TASER their dog it is however always good to be prepared for the unlikely event of a fight because you'll never know what might provoke yours or another pet into fighting or attacking someone. TASER guns are relatively cheap and thus if you love your pet then purchasing a TASER gun would be a wise investment for their safety.
